After careful deliberation and consultation with the Race Coast team, Candice Bass has expanded her family training operation with a now officially permanently based stable at Summerveld training center in Kwazulu-Natal.
The Bass”s have secured 27 boxes at their new Summerveld base , with the aim of initially sending up more suitable candidates as well as some young two-year-olds in due course.
The yard will be run and managed by their now permanently based assistant trainer Terry Fripp. Terry has spent two years with the Bass stable on a seasonal basis over the KZN Champions Seasons with great success and some seriously impressive stats to boot .
With just a small stable of horses, the operation produced a 20% winning strike rate and a 70% place record from 29 starts, for stakes of R1.8 million. This included the dual Grade 2 victors Rainbow Lorikeet, and Tenango, as well as Listed winner Callmegetorix, and the ever popular Centenary Syndicate horse Future Variety who closed off with a Listed feature for his 130 owners.
Candice Bass came off a runner-up position on the Western Cape Trainers log last season and finished 4th on the National Trainers Log earning a total stake of R12,447,513.
We caught up with her to get her thoughts on her National expansion:
“Our team enjoyed a fantastic Champions season and having worked closely with Terry Fripp the last two Natal seasons successfully, I have full trust and confidence in his ability to head up my Natal operation.”
With Race Coasts expansion from Cape into KwaZulu Natal, it is just a natural progression that we follow up with an additional yard. This will also create a gateway for me to freely move horses between centers and seasons as well as send up a larger contingent of raiders for the champion Season. The weather has caused havoc in Cape Town over the last few months so this has really been an easy decision for me.”
“Race Coasts, Justin Vermaak has welcomed our transition and also kindly incentivised our choice to have a dual presence under the Race Coast banner which we are most grateful for.”
With a strong client base in KZN eager to see their horses compete locally, combined with the popularity of their ever-growing Centenary Syndicate, this expansion is a natural and exciting next step for Bass Racing stables.
The yard will initially house a select string of around 10-15 horses relocating from Milnerton, with plans to steadily grow over time. Syndication opportunities will also be made available through the Centenary Syndicate, which has already secured two horses at the BSA two-year old sale that will soon be opened to shareholders for Natal based patrons. These will also qualify under the Race Coast Syndicate incentive programme.
This new chapter marks an exciting step forward for Bass Racing, who look forward to establishing firm roots in KwaZulu-Natal. Bass Racing warmly welcomes all who wish to support the yard and share in their exciting journey ahead.
