There is a great deal of poverty on the Cape Flats and this is also true of the rural farming areas that lie in and around Philippi, Ottery and Schaapkraal. If you were to drive through this area, down the back lanes and alleys and around the farmer’s fields, you would see some of the hundreds of children trapped to some extent or other in the poverty that surrounds them.

Here are Mikes comments on his runners: Sky Raider is having is 1st run in PE over 1400. He is drawn wide at Arlington with a short run in, which will not be in his favour but needs to have a run. His work at home is good and it’s not the strongest race.

The fast improving son of Caesour, River Crossing, won his Second black type race after securing a classy victory in the Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville on Saturday. After registering his 5th win so impressively Mike Bass is now contemplating supplementing his 4 year old gelding for this year’s Vodacom Durban July.
