Champions At Last!

Paul de Beyer,  23/10/2011

New Zealand overcame a spirited French team in Auckland on Sunday to clinch their second Rugby World Cup title, and first in more than two decades.

The build-up to this match had been full of claims that the All Blacks would flatten their fellow Pool A opponents, much as they did in earlier in the tournament and come away with an easy victory.

Wallabies Grab Consolation Prize

Paul de Beyer,  21/10/2011

Australia completed a composed 21-18 victory over a weary Welsh side in Eden Park on Friday.

Wales, without duo Rhys Priestland and Sam Warburton, showed a remarkable lack of direction on attack as they struggled to break through a resolute Aussie defence.

Paul`s Picks

Paul de Beyer,  19/10/2011

The introduction of the French Top 14 league last week was an interesting twist to Rugby5 and it paid out a whopping R4913 after Toulon smashed Perpignan 38-0. This week it’s the Under 21’s who get a chance to throw a spanner in the works with Western Province hosting The Sharks. Currie Cup semi-finals and a World Cup final makes this weekend one to watch!

Sensational Sunday in Auckland

Paul de Beyer,  17/10/2011

New Zealand put together a complete 80 minute performance to come out 20-6 victors over two-time champions Australia at Eden Park on Sunday.

The All Blacks started the game in impervious form and kept the pressure on the Wallabies for the full 80 minutes, hardly giving their neighbours a chance to breath throughout the match.

Battle for Bronze

Paul de Beyer,  15/10/2011

The second last match of the 2011 Rugby World Cup takes place this Friday, with Australia and Wales fighting it out for third place.

Wales have largely stuck with the same line-up that was unlucky to lose to France in the semi-finals, with the only changes injury or suspension enforced.

History Repeating?

Paul de Beyer,  15/10/2011

History repeats itself this Sunday with a replay of the 1987 Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and France kicks off in Auckland.

The All Blacks, firm favourites from day one, have proved the form book right and cruised into the final, hardly putting a foot wrong along the way.

Four Year Flop

Paul de Beyer,  12/10/2011

From day one Springbok Coach Peter de Villiers said he wanted to be judged on how the Boks performed at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. On Sunday they went out in the Quarterfinals, equally the result achieved by Rudolf Straeuli’s team in 2003 and, coincidently, the worst result by a South African team ever.

Match Winners

Paul de Beyer,  12/10/2011

The semi-finals are upon us and these extraordinary matches require extraordinary performances. Each of four teams in this year’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals have players who can change the course of the match single-handedly. Here are four of them...

Paul`s Picks

Paul de Beyer,  11/10/2011

The Springboks tried their utmost but just couldn’t quite manage to get over the line against an inspired Wallaby defence, while the All Blacks, Wales and France made it through to the final four. Last weekend’s Rugby5 paid out a decent R1702, and this weekend’s match list looks set to throw up some interesting results as we get our first look at the French league Top 14.

Welsh Loss is French Gain

Paul de Beyer,  11/10/2011

Wales will be without their impressive flyhalf Rhys Priestland for the Saturday’s Rugby World Cup semi-final against France.

The Welsh star took a nasty knock during the quarterfinal against Ireland and had to be substituted for James Hook during the second half. P

Clash of the Titans

Paul de Beyer,  11/10/2011

Sunday sees the two preeminent sides in world rugby fight it out for the right to compete for the coveted William Webb Ellis trophy.

The rivalry between the All Blacks and Wallabies is something special, and this occasion should be one of the classic matches.
